Birds in the Garden

Being next to a woodland, we see a large variety of birds, large to very small.

Commonly seen, according to the season are: Rock Dove, Collared Dove, Great Spotted woodpecker, chaffinch, blackbird, song thrush, wren, dunnock, robin,  gold finch, coal tits, blue tits, great tits, green finch, siskins, starlings, sparrows and sadly sparrowhawks.

Fairly often, Linnet, Redpoll, tree creepers, pied wagtail and buzzards.

A few times, Blackcap, goldcrest, mistle thrush and during  particularly wet period,  a water rail moved in.

Water rail appeared in the garden ditch after a particularly wet spell.

 

Also some guests spotted  a flock of migrating waxwings.

Heard but not seen are cuckoos and nightjar.
